Paul Distler, born Johannes Paulus Distler in 1823 at Unterleinleiter, Bavaria. He lived in Peoria, Illinois. He was with Capron's Regiment in the Battle of Sunshine Church where he was wounded and taken prisoner of war and held at Charleston, South Carolina until being exchanged. He was also involved in the Western Campaigns with the 11th HQ, but wanted to fight and took the commission as Captain in the 14th.
